Day of Defeat Wiki

The Walther P38 is an Axis sidearm in Day of Defeat: Source. It replaces the Luger P08 from the original Day of Defeat.

Strategies[]

P38 s

The Walther P38's reload time is inferior to that of the Colt M1911, but superior to the American sidearm in terms of maximum magazine capacity by one. The P38 should be considered a last resort firearm to be used in close quarter battle. The weapon is commonly seen in the hands of Snipers and Machine Gunners on the move between positions or in CQB.

In-game, the P38 deals 40 damage to the torso, 30 to legs and arms, and 100 to the head making it one of the more weaker hitting weapons alongside sub-machine guns. The rate of fire entirely depends on how fast the player can pull the trigger and can potentially shoot faster than the MP40 SMG. The recoil is low, and reload time very fast, so it is advisable to quickly fire the 8 rounds and reload as fast as you can. This technique ensures that you will at least have a fighting chance when face to face with an enemy with an SMG in CQB.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The Walther P38 was originally planned to be the standard sidearm for the Axis during the Alpha phase of the original Day of Defeat in 2000, however, for unknown reasons, it was replaced by the Luger P08.[1]
