Day of Defeat Wiki

The M1911 (M1911A1, sometimes known as Colt .45 not to be confused with the Colt .45 revolver) is a sidearm in both Day of Defeat games and is usable only by the American team.

The M1911 pistol originated in the late 1890s, in the search for a suitable self-loading (or semi-automatic) handgun, to replace the variety of Revolvers then in service. The United States of America was adopting new firearms at a phenomenal rate; several new handguns and two all-new service rifles (the M1892/96/98 Krag and M1895 Navy Lee), as well as a series of Revolvers by Colt and Smith & Wesson for the Army and Navy were adopted just in that decade. The next decade would see a similar pace, including the adoption of several more revolvers and an intensive search for a self-loading pistol that would culminate in official adoption of the M1911 after the turn of the decade in the year 1911.

Day of Defeat[]

The M1911 is the most well-rounded sidearm in Day of Defeat. This is because its stopping power and rate of fire are more than that of the German Luger's and less than the British Webley Mk IV Revolver. Also its magazine capacity of 7 rounds is between that of the German Luger and the British Webley Mk IV (The Luger having 8 rounds and the Webley with 6 rounds).

Day of Defeat: Source[]

In Day of Defeat: Source, there is no statistical change from that of Day of Defeat.

Its reload time are superior to that of the P38, but inferior to the German sidearm in terms of its maximum magazine capacity by one. The M1911 should be considered a last resort firearm to be used in close quarter battle. The weapon is commonly seen in the hands of Snipers and Machine Gunners on the move between positions or in CQB.

In-Game, the M1911 deals 40 damage to the torso, 30 to legs and arms, and 100 to the head making it one of the more weaker hitting weapons along side sub-machine guns. The rate of fire entirely depends on how fast the player can click his/her mouse and can potentially shoot faster than the MP40 SMG. The recoil is low, and reload time very fast, so it is advisable to quickly fire the 7 rounds and reload as fast as you can. This technique ensures that you will at least have a fighting chance when face to face with an enemy with an SMG in CQB.
