Cut Classes[]
Pre-release Classes[]
During the game’s Alpha stage in 2000, the developers published a list on their website outlining the classes they wanted to implement by the release of the full version of the mod. While most of these classes were eventually added to the game, some were ultimately cut during development.
| Class | Americans | Axis |
|---|---|---|
| Flamer | Flamethrower Colt 1911 Knife |
N/A |
| Grenade Launcher Panzerfaust |
N/A | Panzerfaust Walther P38 Knife |
| Combat Engineer Feld-Ingenieur |
M3 Grease Gun Colt 1911 Knife |
Maschinenpistole Erma Walther P38 Knife |
| Combat Medic Feld-Arzt |
Colt 1911 Knife |
Walther P38 Knife |
Mortar[]
A cut class intended for all factions that would use, as the name suggests, a mortar. It was planned to be added in version 1.2 along with Rocket Infantry, but its release was delayed indefinitely and, for unknown reasons, was never added to the game.
| Class | Americans | British | Axis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mortar | Mortar Colt 1911 Knife |
Mortar Webley Knife |
Mortar Luger Spade |
Valve seemed to have tried adding the class again in Day of Defeat: Source, but it ended up getting scrapped there as well
Unused Model Parts Player Models[]
Certain player models have a lot of "blank" unused parts, seemingly dummied out as the game doesn't actually use them for those particular models. For example, the British player model has these dummied out parts:
- Submodels 2-6 for the "body" part, which controls the uniform.
- Submodels 7 and 8 for the "helmet" part, which controls the headgear/hair.
- Submodels 5-7 for the "head" and "gear" parts.
Weapons[]
All Allied (and by extension, Allied Paratroopers) faction weapons will have invisible sleeves when being obtained via console commands in maps that have the British faction, and vice versa. One example is the Lee-Enfield rifle, seen below:
Hidden Texture Messages[]
Some of the game's models have hidden messages in their textures.
p_youthk[]
A model for a "Hitler Youth" knife as held by a player. This knife was likely replaced by the gravity knife as the Axis Paratroopers melee in the final.
player[]
An untextured copy of the Axis character model, all bodygroups included. It is used when a map is loaded as singleplayer, but is normally unseen.
w_paraknife[]
World model for the aforementioned knife. It is impossible to drop melee weapons in-game.
Revisional Differences[]
Menus[]
Just like all other GoldSource engine games, Day of Defeat received many of the same changes the others did when going from WON (World Opponent Network) to Steam in 2003
