A bipod is a feature in Day of Defeat and Day of Defeat: Source.

When deployed on a surface or when prone, the weapon's accuracy will dramatically increase, with almost no recoil.

The bipod can only be deployed when prone, or in a sandbag area. (Only in Day of Defeat, Day of Defeat: Source allows you to deploy a bipod on any surface you want). "Sandbag areas" were ledges or sandbags in Day of Defeat. There is a bug that gave players no recoil in Day of Defeat: Source. It still exists to this day and has not been patched.
